Harvard WorldMUN is the largest international collegiate model united nations conference in the world with more than 1600 attending delegates annually. I was on the Secretariat team, consisting of 8 members, who organized the entire 2018 conference held in Panama.

Each year, Harvard WorldMUN is hosted in a different international city. In 2018, Panama was hosting the conference and I was tasked with designing a conference logo that would be used across the entire conference (on merchandise, documents, social media, websites, etc).
I wanted to design an eye-catching logo that would not only represent the culture and city of Panama but also be memorable for all attending delegates.
My first instinct was to research into the etymology of the word “Panama”, which I discovered meant "an abundance of fish, trees, and butterflies". Being particularly drawn to the “butterflies” aspect of the etymology, I integrated the colors of Panama’s flag and created the conference logo.
This logo design process was discussed back and forth with the host team in Panama to ensure they were pleased and felt well represented by the design.
This logo design served as a model that subsequent years consistently followed, which can be seen on the conference website — worldmun.org
Each delegate received a hard copy handbook, which contained all information related to the 5-day long conference — ranging from maps, to schedules, to social event details. The 60 page guide was entirely designed from scratch using InDesign.
I designed a conference document template in inDesign that could be used across committee background guides, formal letters to organizers and funders, and other related documents. The conference logo was also used to design materials such as business cards and name tags.
Merchandise such as t-shirts and folders were also designed with the conference logo. That year, with my logo, we had sold the most conference merchandise in the history of the organization!
I managed the Facebook page reaching more than 40k followers with updates about conference registration deadlines, planning updates, and fun content to enhance audience engagement.
Since the organization had not started an instagram account prior, I started the @harvardworldmun account that now has over 2.5k followers and has been consistently used each year since.
It was such an enriching experience being able to travel to Panama to run the week-long conference as well as being able to see my designs used on such a large scale. This design experience was truly eye-opening as I got a glimpse into the power of design and how rewarding the job can be!
